Vector Brush Creation
Under construction.
A new utility to automate much of the process of brush creation is under development. In the meantime, here are the instructions for the manual method.
1. Define a bounding box. This box will not appear in the design, but will represent the native aspect ration of the design.
2. Create a design that remains entirely within the bounding box that you have defined.
3. If the brush is intended to cycle along either its width or height, the pattern must extend to the edge of the cycling axis. Any shapes that touch the edge must also be represented in a continued form on the opposite edge. An easy way to accomplish this is to slice off the shapes that extend over the edge, reflect them along the axis they straddle, then drag them to to opposite edge.
4. If the brush is intended to be used with an assignable color, all the shapes must be set to white. Any color assigned when the brush is used, is added to the designed color of the brush. When the brush is designed as white, it contributes no color of its own, using only the color assigned when used. Multi-color brushes can also be created, but will only be represented with their original colors when used with a white assigned color.
5. Select all the shapes that are to comprise the new brush, (excluding the bounding box), and export the selections as Artscript. The directory you save them in can then be accessed by the browser in the Add Brush option of the brush style pull out menu.
